Arranging to attend Anime Expo 2012

April 14, 2012 in General Anime

Anime Expo 2012 is in Las Vegas from June 29th to July 3rd. I Can’t wait to go since this will be my first time so I hope to get it arranged, below are 3 videos on the 2011 Expo taken from a fan although he does cover one of the most important parts of the expo which is the costumes – I wish he had covered other parts.

Costumes

All the costumes were great in this video, I do disagree with non Japanese animation being included in an anime expo especially since the whole point is to promote Japanese animation in America but he really did a great job showcasing the best cos-play costumes.

Video 1

Several good characters like Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon, Mew Mew Lettuce from Tokyo Mew Mew, several others.

Video 2

1:54 ruined the video, why was it included?

Many more good costumes and, as usual, a ton of Hatsune Miku costumes

Video 3

This was the best in my opinion, lot’s of good costumes

Review of Kaze No Stigma Episode 1

April 2, 2012 in Kaze no Stigma

I think this looks like an interesting anime, a guy from a family that practices fire magic instead practices wind magic which is a big disgrace to the family. I like anime with a lot of action and wile this had a lot of fighting scenes it just didn’t have that depth other anime have, kind of boring, but I’ll watch a few more episodes to see if that changes. In this episode the main character was also framed for several murders in the family by an unknown entity so his family now thinks he killed the members but he handled it very flatly or in other words he just kind of set back and said oh well, I would have liked to see more emotion involved and maybe some more action. A good rule of thumb is you can’t judge an anime by the first 3 episodes so I’ll watch further into the series but it didn’t seem that interesting.

On a different note, the graphics, drawings, and special effects were pretty good so this anime appears to have a good budget, I’ll see how it plays out.

Finished Tokyo Mew Mew – Episode 1

September 25, 2011 in Tokyo Mew Mew

Okay so I started a new anime and abandoned the previous one, this new anime happens to be a “Magical Girl” type which is my favorite :) .

For those of you who don’t know, magical girl is a famous type of anime popularized by Sailor Moon and it’s been popular ever since. (Before Sailor Moon it was more of a dud). The type revolves around a main character who’s usually a normal person (nothing special) but has the ability to transform and access a special type of power. In a non-transformed state the person usually cannot access any power.

The “Magical Girl” genre also greatly emphasizes the “Transformation” with a dedicated 30 second to 1 minute transformation clip. Before Sailor Moon the genre was more of a dud and the people never used their powers against crime (used it more to help themselves in everyday life) Sailor Moon was the first anime in the category to introduce the idea of crime fighting which was never thought of before and thus largely popularized the genre.

After Sailor Moon many more anime were made into this genre namely Kamichama Karin (characters transform into a god-like person) and Shugo Chara (characters transform into a would-be version of themselves), but several hundred more have been made and are being made into this category as thanks to Sailor Moon.

This anime “Tokyo Mew Mew” is another anime in the same category so I’m back to watching my favorite genre.

Also, some people argue that all the anime in the “Magical Girl” genre are all the same. I do agree with this to a point… They all have the same transformation style clip in every episode, rotate around the same principles, have the same type events in every story arc and, to some extent, the same type ending. But each one is very different, it’s not a seen one seen them all type thing. Each one has a very unique storyline that’s usually well planed out and equally interesting to watch.

The usual last segment is below:

A japanese guy recommended anime

A Japanese guy, whom I’m helping to get better at English, recommended this anime to me as it’s his favorite.

電波女と青春男

Electric Wave Woman and Youthful Man

According to Wikipedia:

“Electric Wave” being used in Japanese to refer to a person who is crazy or holds odd beliefs

I’ll investigate the anime to see if I’d like it or not, it does have to do with aliens so I might not like it (I’m not a fan of alien related anime or manga).

A preview of various parts of the anime is below:

Decided on New Anime – Hayate no Gotoku

September 22, 2011 in Hayate no Gotoku

It’s been 2 day’s since I saw a new anime episode, I recently finished all 200 episodes of Sailor Moon (no more to watch), thus I’ve been in a sort of gray area.

Normally I quickly choose the next anime on the list but I had placed Shugo Chara on pause to give Sailor Moon highest priority so the next logical step would be to come back to Shugo Chara. The issue with that is after the 1st story arc, things went downhill for the show and now it’s just dumb to watch.

I really don’t want to make myself watch a little over 50 more episodes just to finish the show when it’s no longer any good so what to do next?

I decided to not finish Shugo Chara and pick another anime from the list, after careful consideration I chose Hayate no Gotoku which had excellent reviews and ratings. It’s about a boy who’s parents get deep into debt and decide to sell they’re son for money, to prevent being sold the “good kid” turns “bad guy” and kidnaps a girl to be held for ransom (and ultimately use that money to payoff they’re parents debt). Unfortunately things backfire when the kidnapped girl mistakes the kidnapping for an act of love.

It seems interesting so I thought I’d give it a try.
