    • My Review:
      • This was a really good anime and is also a “Magical Girl” anime. It started off like most other magical girl anime’s do and grew into a cutesy type anime like Kamichama Karin.
      • The anime, however, quickly turned a different direction. It transitioned from “cutesy” type to a more “sad” type anime, much to my surprise at the ending segment. This new direction really added a lot of “newness” to it which is the reason it surprised me.
      • I would recommend this anime to others as I really liked it.

  • Asatte no Houkou

    • My Review:
      • This anime was very serious, unlike other anime I’ve seen. Very little action happened in each episode and, in fact, the only real action happened at the very end of the episode. Unlike most other anime, this anime had no over acting, was not over dramatic, and really had no background music hardly since it’s so serious.
      • I really liked this anime because of it, it was a -very- down to earth anime that will put you in tears on many episodes. It focuses on both lives equally. The visitor life with her ex-husbands affair, her poor life choices, and missed opportunities. The girls life with her sadness & depression along with tragic events in her life.
      • The only “real” fictional thing in this anime is the age swap, everything else is completely based in reality and will leave you hooked till the end.
    • Some Clips:
  • Kamichama Karin
    • Description: Karin Hanazono is an orphan, living with her relatives. Her life has never been easy, her studies are not well, she is not the best in sports and technically she is miserable. Left with only a ring as a memento from her departed mother, she suddenly finds her life changed, as she was mourning her pet cat, Shii-chan. On that night she met a strange boy, Kazune Kujyou. After that event, she experiences several mysterious incidences that soon led her to find out that she is a little goddess. Finding others like her she soon sets out to understand herself better as her mysterious powers grow and she becomes beset by opponents.

    • My Review:
      • This was the funniest anime I think I’ve ever seen. Your practically rolling on floor laughing through most of the anime. Like most anime it it’s category it also get’s very serious and has a tearjerker ending (in a good way). I would highly recommend this anime.
      • This anime is also really big on visual cues and expressions which other anime don’t usually have much of thus really adding to the humor.
      • It is slightly mysterious throughout since most of the characters backgrounds and reasoning remain a mystery until the last few episodes. this is a must see.
      • The character drawings in this anime were particularly good as well
    • Some Clips:
  • Full Moon wo Sagashite

    • My Review:
      • This is a deeply moving anime, a truckload of tearjerker moments, scenes, and episodes just as there are plenty of happy and goofy moments.
      • This anime got really good reviews and ratings, it also captured the attention of many famous painters and artists in Japan. It’s extremely inspirational and I’d recommend it to anyone.
      • This is one of the most emotional anime’s I’d ever seen, the episodes jump from happy and cheerful to sad and moving so quickly you can’t help but to exclaim shortly through the series “What happened to the cheerful episodes”… Nevertheless, I would highly recommend this to anyone.
      • On a side note: the show has really good music which ended up being released in Japan on it’s own album and the character drawings were excellent.
    • Some Clips:
  • Sailor Moon
    • Description: One day, Usagi Tsukino, clumsy 2nd-year middle school student (8th grader), stumbles upon a talking cat named Luna. Luna tells her that she is destined to be Sailor Moon, “champion of love and justice”, and she must search for the fabled Moon Princess. Usagi finds friends that turn out to be destined senshi as well, and together they fight to save the world from the certain doom brought upon by the Dark Kingdom (Queen Beryl, the generals, Metallia).

    • Rating: 3.5 of 5 stars based on 139 votes
    • My Review:
      • Sailor Moon was extremely famous in Japan, it redefined the “Magical Girl” category which was pretty different beforehand and was one of few anime’s to become extremely popular throughout the world in most all the major and some minor countries.
      • It became so popular in America that when America was wanting to cancel importation of the show, a group of fans got together and formed a group called “Save Our Sailors” or “SOS” for short. They started a petition to gather as many signatures as possible to prevent cancellation of the show in America and gathered 30,000 signatures immediately preventing the cancellation. Link Here
      • In Japan, Sailor Moon remains unquestionably an irreplaceable classic. Countless money went into it’s development between the storyline, the animations, and the award winning music.
      • Italy considers it equally as great and is beginning to redevelop it.
      • Sailor moon was so great, in fact, that it was one of few anime’s to have a live action created after it (Non-Animated Remake) and even a Japanese Musical
      • I would definitely recommend watching it and largely enjoyed it but it’s entire storyline ranges exactly 200 episodes and 5 major installments making it quite long for most people
      • Beware of the last 10 or so episodes in each story arc, they’re always !!really!! sad and big tearjerkers.
    • Some Clips:
  • Mamotte! Lollipop
    • Description: The story revolves around female protagonist Nina Yamada, a seventh grader who accidentally swallows the Crystal Pearl thinking it was candy. The pearl is the goal of a sorcery examination where the students must retrieve it to pass. But since Nina has swallowed the pearl, she is now the target. Fortunately for Nina, two of the examinees decide to protect her from the other students while they work on a potion to extract the pearl from Nina.
    • My Review:
      • I really liked this anime and wouldn’t mind going back to watch it again but it’s a little different than other anime. The main character is a “Hopeless Romantic” or in other words she’s continuously all the time thinking about her “Knight in shining armor” which get’s a little tiring after a while.
      • Despite being a little goofy I truly enjoyed it, but the “Knight in shining armor” get’s real annoying after a while and thus others may not like the show as a whole.
      • The show does have a few emotional episodes that are not so goofy as they are sad, one in particular covers san’s tragic background regarding her mothers death.
      • Despite all that,I’d suggest giving this anime a go, but even though it’s one of my favorites it’s certainly not at the top of the list.
    • Some Clips:
  • Shinryaku! Ika Musume
    • Description: The sea in our world has been polluted. All sorts of trash were thrown into the sea, making it unpleasant deep under the sea. One of the inhabitants of the sea, Ika Musume (Squid Girl) seeks to exact revenge on humanity for throwing trash into the sea. Clueless about the surface, she seeks to invade humanity alone, trying to rule over the world, only to find herself slaving away at one of the nearest beach-houses for breaking a side of its wall.
    • My Review:
      • This anime was definitely one of my top favs, about a girl from the sea who comes to invade humanity, alone, but ends up working on some beach shack repairing the damage she caused.
      • It’s hilarious but a little different than other anime, each single episode contains several “mini” episodes usually not related to one another but does follow a storyline.
      • I’d recommend this – the series is not that long but really funny. I’d watch it again myself.
      • It’s also a cutesy type anime if you like those kind
    • Some Clips:
  • Shugo Chara
    • Description: Every child has an egg in their heart, unseen at first, an egg with the would-be self of their dreams. Hinamori Amu, part of a group called the Guardians, protect those eggs from becoming x-eggs, eggs filled with resentment and resignation that gives children troubles. Amu’s job is to capture and restore x-eggs to their orginal form. She does this with the help of her three Shugo Chara (guardian characters or her would be selves), Ran, Miki and Su. Thanks to them she can change her character and abilities, and so fight against the mysterious organization Easter which aim is to find a special egg called Embryo using the x-eggs.
    • My Review:
      • This was one of those anime that I didn’t think I would be interested in but turned out to love it. I liked it so much that I’m going to finish all 100 episodes
      • It was really good and I’d highly recommend it but it’s also under the “Magical Girl” genre so it’s in the same genre as “Sailor Moon” and “Kamichama Karin” – you’ll usually like it if you like “Magical Girl” shows in general.
    • Some Clips:
  • Vocaloid (Japanese Band not TV Show)
    • Description: Vocaloid is a high ranking Japanese band which uses several different cutting edge technologies for live performance, most of which no other band in the world has. The band singers and performers are completely fake (anime) and their voices are synthesized (also fake). The other band members are real though. Each concert is about 2:30 hours in length and features high quality music, special effects, costumes, and character drawings. Vocaloid is internationally famous and always has sold out concerts and encores. They’ve also begun international tours with the first stop Los Angelo’s, CA.
    • My Review:
      • I’m a huge Vocaloid fan and own all of the concert discs so far. Vocaloid also has a ton of non-concert media like games, albums, and music videos which I like to watch.
      • My favorite characters are, hands down, the Kagamine Fraternal Twins Rin & Len.
      • I would highly recommend the band as it’s pure fun to sit through and for the people who don’t like the idea of an animated singer may be pleasantly surprised.

Saw and disliked:

  • Dragon Ball
    • Description: Bulma is a girl in search of the mystical dragonballs that when brought together grant any wish. • My Review:
      • This anime was terrible, the entire show, plot of the show, and even every single character to some extent revolved in some way around mature or adult content in a cheap humor kind of way. I started watching it because I had watched Dragonball Z, which had none of that, when it aired on TV and wanted to see the story arc before that. The show only continually got worse and it seemed that every character except for about 2 or 3 were perverts.
      • The show was widely popular in Japan and considered a classic since it was at one time extremely famous.
      • I would not recommend this to anyone else and eventually quit watching it as it just got too bad, never improved.
    • Some Clips:
  • Telepathy Shoujo Ran
    • Description: Ran is a bright and energetic first-grader in junior high school who possesses supernatual abilities. Together with Midori (her friend who also has supernatural powers) and Rui, the threesome are constantly embroiled in mysterious circumstances. Ran is troubled by her powers because it seems to spark off the ill intentions of people in contact with her. However, with the support of her family and peers, Ran learns to deal with her ‘other’ side and accepts who she is. The threesome also learn how to team up as a whole and solve these mysterious events.

    • My Review:
      • I just thought the quality was poor, the storyline wasn’t planned out that well, some things didn’t make sense, and the acting seemed pretty bad. It certainly wasn’t my favorite not would I recommend watching it.
      • I only really got through 2 episodes before dropping off, not only was the quality bad but it was kind of silly and some of the characters looked goofy.
    • Some Clips:
  • Hayate no GotokuHayate no Gotoku Cover image
    • Description: 16-year-old Hayate is really down on his luck. His unemployed parents are good-for-nothings who waste the money they have on gambling. One day, his parents have racked up a huge gambling debt that they had to sell Hayate to the yakuza for the value of his organs. In a desperate attempt to avoid that fate, Hayate decides to become a “bad guy” and kidnap someone to be held for ransom, but his efforts to do so are mistaken as a confession of love by the girl he targets.

    • My Review
      • It’s just stupid, very bizarre, and makes no sense. It’s the same type of show as Dragonball where everything is bizarre and makes no sense. The only thing that makes any sort of sense is the core plot but even that’s sort of silly.
      • I especially stopped watching it when they started talking to the camera and when an entire episode is dedicated to him delivering food to this girl at school.
